Welcome, everyone, to the recap of our August blogs. You may look at your calendars and say, “Mark, my friend, it’s September 12. We’re almost halfway through September. Why is this recap so late?” That, my dear reader, is an astute question. It actually has a very logical answer. A Greek philosopher (Plato, I believe) once coined a situation like this an, “Oopsie Daisy.”
I won’t bore you with the details, but life has a way of getting away from us sometimes, huh?
Anywho, I’m back with some music recs for you readers before we get to the sweet, sweet blogs we put out in August.
Speaking of August, here’s “August” by flipturn. Memorialize this blazing hot summer (for our northern hemisphere readers) with this absolutely intoxicating track with an earworm chorus and vocals I just can’t get enough of:
Mellow out with this psychedelic, laid back piece from Turnstile, BADBADNOTGOOD, and Blood Orange, “Alien Love Call.” Man, you just can’t get better song titles anywhere else but the Indie scene:
I’ve always got a soft spot for songs I can picture myself listening to live in a smoky bar, late at night, with a broken heart. “Eat It Too” by Nep fills that roll perfectly with wistful lyrics and beautiful instrumentals that leaves me scanning that imaginary crowd for a slow dancing partner:
Finally, “Never Learned To Dance” by Medium Build is one that evokes the dissatisfaction of regret, but in a cathartic, even theraputic way. This is one of those songs that forms the backbone of a “laying in bed at night thinking about what could have been” soundtrack. Explicit content warning on this one:
Anywho, plugging my personal taste in music aside, here are the posts we put out in the month of August. Snowflake takes the cake with most blogs by topic, but don’t sleep on our other pieces. Sports fans get two blogs on marrying games with data, our newest PYD episode provides expert opinions on how AI is affecting the data world and Pokémon even makes an appearance. Check it out:
