“Traditional backup software does not understand virtualization.” – David M. Davis.

 Backup Academy

Tomorrow marks the launch of a new FREE learning site, BackupAcademy.com, which offers a fundamental view of how virtualization works with relations to backup and replication strategies.  The site is sponsored by Veeam and is generally product-neutral–except for discussing VMware and Hyper-V differences–and is geared to varying levels or technical expertise.  It contains videos narrated by several different experts and offers an exam to test one’s knowledge.

The “Professors” consist of:

David Davis, vExpert, Author, Blogger, TrainSignal superstar – www.vmwarevideos.com / @davidmdavis

Elias Khnaser, vExpert and CTO at Sigma Solutions – www.eliaskhnaser.com / @ekhnaser

Greg Shields, vExpert and Senior Partner at Concentrated Technology – www.concentratedtech.com / @concentratdGreg

Eric Siebert, vExpert, Author, Blogger, Solutions Manager – Storage Virtualization at HP – www.vsphere-land.com / @ericsiebert

Rick Vanover, vExpert, Product Strategy Specialist at Veeam Software – www.veeam.com/blog  / @RickVanover

BackupAcademy.com gives a lot of good information regarding just how different virtual machines are from physical servers with regards to backups, data protection, and disaster recovery.  You will learn about hardware independence, portability, VSS, and best practices.   When you’re ready, take the exam to become Backup Academy Certified and get a snippet for your website.

Visit Backup Academy at www.backupacademy.com and follow on twitter, @BckpAcademy.
