We’ve got exciting news for the Tableau community: The Netherlands Tableau User Group (TUG) is officially meeting again! And we wouldn’t dream of missing out. Hopefully, the short video above and my summary below will help share the experience and invite you to participate in the next TUG event in your city.
NL TUG Leadership Team
The Netherlands TUG was actually inactive for almost a year. Three Tableau enthusiasts, Jim de Clercq, Jada Ballentine and Phillip Langhammer decided it was time for the group to start back up. The event took place in Eindhoven with 70 people from all over Holland in attendance. For some people, it took around two hours to get there and they each had different levels of experience in Tableau. This just goes to show how passionate people are about Tableau, data visualisation and meeting other people from the data community.

Presentations and Networking
To kick things off, Jada gave a presentation entitled “Implementation of Tableau Governance Model at NXP.” It was a great presentation about how their company not only successfully implemented Tableau, but also built their own Tableau community inside the organisation. Some of the key points were: internal trainings, dedicated Tableau Enablement Team, workbook templates, and setting up best practices and standards. If you are interested in learning more, you can find the link to the presentation here and contact Jada for more details.
I had the pleasure of giving a presentation about visual best practices for dashboard design. I gave a short overview of some techniques that are important to keep in mind when creating dashboards. We also discussed visual pre-attentive attributes such as colour, shape and how to apply them in our visualisations. As always, we closed out the evening with some networking. We discussed the presentations, shared our experiences and ideas for future events.
See You in December!
Our next TUG will be in Amsterdam on December 7. For those who missed out on Eindhoven, we hope you can make it this time. For more information, follow the Netherlands community on LinkedIn or the Tableau Community page. And one final note: I also became a leader for the Netherlands TUG along with Jada, Phillip and Jim. We hope to see you in December.
