Open Data Viz: Portland Residential Construction Growth 1996-2016

Portland, Oregon, is no stranger to the construction increase happening in most major metropolitan cities across the city. On a recent trip to Portland, I noticed tall apartment complexes on the east side of the city. When I spoke with a colleague who works in the area, I learned about the huge influx of people moving to Portland and the demand it has created for more housing.

Naturally, the open data enthusiast in me had to take a closer look by checking out Portland’s open data portal. I was able to download data for approved residential construction permits over the past 20+ years. Check out the dashboard below to explore and learn more about Portland’s rising skyline.
