As a resident of Baton Rouge for a few years and a proud South Louisiana Cajun since birth, most traditions and memories I hold dearly revolve around delicious meals. Whether it was a graduation celebration or a football tailgate, “what’s on the menu?” was always a hot topic. The excitement I’d feel around Restaurant Week was close to that of opening presents on Christmas morning. As an LSU student, a three-course meal for only $15 was a steal, and a great excuse for an impromptu girls’ night out. After graduation, it gave me the opportunity to visit new locations, sip on local brews and discover favorite dishes!
As a recent transplant to Oklahoma, and as I travel around the country evangelizing Tableau, I find myself missing boudin balls, jambalaya and Monday-night red beans and rice. So, in honor of Restaurant Week, my Cajun heritage AND Tableau’s Mapping Month, I decided to create an interactive map using Tableau and a custom map from Mapbox that shows all the best restaurants you should check out in Baton Rouge. Though I’m missing home, my one request from all of you is that you treat yourself this week! Find a babysitter for date night, procrastinate a bit more on the homework or grab some friends from work and check out all of the incredible eats your local area has to offer!
