Dell recently announced the release of a new product in the EqualLogic iSCSI SAN line.  The PS6000XVS (PS6010XVS for 10Gb mdels) is a mixture of 8 SSD and 8 15K RPM SAS drives to provide optimized, tiered workloads.  The unit is perfect for VMware View environments, for example, where “boot storms” occur.  Virtual machine files would quickly be moved onto SSD storage to reduce IOPS during heavy boot periods of virtual desktops such as the morning when people arrive to work.  It also allows for very fast provisioning of VMs, linked clones, etc.
