Restoring SmarterMail folder from Backup Exec

//

While troubleshooting missing inbox email for a client, I ran across these instructions to restore an email folder (Inbox) for SmarterMail. This client uses an older version of SmarterMail and these instructions worked perfect with Backup Exec.

  • Restore the mailbox from Backup Exec to a temp folder such as C:temprestore
  • Log into the SmarterMail web interface as the user and create a new folder called “restore”
  • Stop the SmarterMail service on the SmarterMail server
  • While on the server, delete the Mailbox.cfg file in the newly created “restore” folder in the users account
  • Move all the backed up files from the C:temprestore to the “restore” folder on the SmarterMail server
  • Re-Start the SmarterMail service on the server
  • Log into the users SmarterMail web account
  • Move all the restored messages from the backup folder to the Inbox
