Snowflake-Native Pipeline Migration for National Sports Governing Body

The Situation

A national governing body for one of Australia's major professional sports managed fan engagement, membership, ticketing, and grassroots participation programs across 18 clubs. Their internal data engineering team needed to reduce dependency on a third-party ETL tool while resolving a backlog of unresolved data problems:

  • Duplicate ticket records from an unreliable third-party API
  • Incomplete participant data in youth program reporting
  • Growing platform costs and architectural debt

What We Did

  • Fixed broken Snowflake report queries tied to a youth participation platform
  • Extended a geocoding pipeline to incorporate two new data sources
  • Built a hash-based deduplication solution to resolve corrupted ticketing data
  • Migrated existing pipelines toward Snowflake-native patterns
  • Built a fully Snowflake-native production pipeline using asynchronous concurrency to process 20 clubs and 14 data tables simultaneously

Results

  • Pipeline runtime dropped from ~2 hours per club to under 10 minutes across all 20 clubs combined
  • Resolved a data reliability problem that had persisted for an extended period
  • Client's lead data engineer independently referred two additional engagements
