Driven by a deep curiosity to understand the Earth as a complex system, Rens pursued his studies in Earth sciences in Utrecht, the Netherlands. After earning his master’s degree, he continued his academic journey by pursuing a PhD in geophysics in Berlin, Germany, where he focused on the study of earthquakes.

Throughout his scientific career, Rens developed a strong passion for programming and data science. Realizing that he can apply these skills at a much wider scope led him to transition to InterWorks as a Data Engineer. In this role, Rens gets to play with data and help create innovative solutions to tackle all sorts of challenges across different industries.

In his spare time, Rens enjoys immersing himself in nature. Whether it’s rock climbing, hiking, camping, biking, or ideally a mix of all them, he loves spending time outside and soaking up the beauty of the natural world around him.
