Windows 7 comes with a taskbar feature which allows you to mouse over your open programs in the task bar and a thumbnail appears showing you an image of the file or program that you have open.  Some people may not like this feature and would like to disable it.  To disable it, perform the following steps:

Open up any folder

  • Hit the start button
  • In the search Programs and files field, enter gpedit.msc
  • In the main window browse to user configurationadministrative templatesstart menu and taskbar
  • Go to the last item listed which should be “Turn off taskbar thumbnails”
  • Double click on this item
  • Select disabled
  • Select ok
  • Close all the windows out

You are finished, the thumbnails should no longer appear.
