How to Find ROI in Social Media

This is a very interesting topic. It is debated, as it is very difficult to quantify the exact results of social media. Here is the answer… stop trying to find ROI and understand you never will. Not to say social media does not deliver results and revenues to your company, it is just insanely difficult to quantify the results.

So why is it so difficult? Odds are you will never get a Facebook post or a Twitter mention stating, “I bought product X because Y company tweeted about it.” Understand this; it works, but only when done properly.

We have always had the ability to interact with our customers, but never on this much of a personal level. Marketers used to mail catalogs and coupons, the ever so popular telephone marketing, email blasting, and now the trend is social media. Social media is much more unique than the other methods.

With social media, we have the ability to interact with potential customers directly – and they pay attention because they will check their Facebook and Twitter accounts whether at home or on the go. The key is to be creative, interact when appropriate, and don’t feel pressure to push your product right away.

Social media marketing guru Gary Vaynerchuck speaks on this topic. He points out that most businesses have Facebook and Twitter logos on their website, but you go to their accounts and they do nothing with them. They are just logos posted to their sites. Facebook and Twitter accounts are created because their competitors started them. Be different. Adopt a strategy and engage your customers and interact on a personal level.

Now is the time to get active and get involved. Be ahead of your competitors and establish that connection now!
