EqualLogic PS6500X Released

Yesterday, Dell EqualLogic announced the release of the PS6500X array. If you’re not familiar with EqualLogic arrays, they are extremely scalable, easy to manage iSCSI SANs that help companies make better use of their storage.

The PS6500X, like the PS6500E, has 48 drives in a 4U chassis. The drives are 600GB 10,000 RPM SAS drives, which give you 28.8TB of raw storage. Before the release of the PS6500X, if you wanted to use 28.8TB of 10k RPM drives, it would have required four PS6000X chassis, each with 16 450GB drives. The new array contains the same amount of storage while taking 1/3 of the space, and uses a fraction of the power.

Some tech specs:

Cache: 4GB per array

Drives: 48 600GB Hot Pluggable 10k RPM SAS

Raw Storage: 28.8TB

OS Support: Anything supporting iSCSI (Linux, Unix, Windows, pretty much everything)

RAID Support: RAID 5, 6, 10, and 50

GbE NICs: 4 ports per controller
