InterWorks Named Among Inc. Best Workplaces for 2020

If you know InterWorks, then you know we pride ourselves on being a fantastically fun place to work. In fact, our modus operandi for the past 24 years has been doing work we love while having a great time. This means actually listening to and taking care of our people – a crazy concept, we know. So, it’s with great pleasure that I announce InterWorks was officially named to the Inc. Best Workplaces list for 2020! We’re talking best workplaces in the country, not just locally, statewide or regionally. That’s a pretty big deal to us, and it really affirms our core mission.

The Anatomy of a Best Workplace

So, how is all this nationwide Best Workplaces stuff decided? It’s all pretty methodical. Each year, Inc. opens their competition to organizations of all shapes and sizes to share why they think their place of work is one of the best. This includes a rigorous benefits and culture survey where certain benchmarks must be met, but that’s only half of the equation. The other component to this competition is an anonymous, company-wide employee satisfaction survey process. From there, an Inc. panel compiles all the results and determines which organizations are truly among the best for that year. The competition this year featured over 3,000 applicants, yet 389 made the final cut.

What Sets InterWorks Apart?

It’s great that there are some objective criteria to judge these things by, but you might be wondering why we think InterWorks stands apart as one of the best places to work in the country. In other words, what are the unique things that set InterWorks apart? The answers you get might vary slightly from InterWorker to InterWorker, but it almost always boils down to our people. Here are some anonymous excerpts from the Inc. employee satisfaction surveys that illustrate this point:

“Overall, InterWorks treats people as their greatest asset and taken them into consideration when making decisions. I don’t feel like I’m just a number here and I know I contribute to the success of InterWorks. Caring about their people over the bottom line equals a better bottom line and it shows.”

“InterWorks values its people and culture above all. It is an organization that promotes and prizes rapport with coworkers, fun in the workplace and a flexible, easy culture that sometimes makes it seem like your job isn’t work at all.”

Our people are what truly make InterWorks special. It all starts in our hiring process, which is super rigorous. We only want the best at InterWorks, yet it’s important to define what “best” means. For us, best doesn’t mean being all-knowing or superior in every way – it means having an ever-present thirst for learning and the ability to apply new lessons to our work every day. The tech landscape is constantly evolving, so we want people who are adaptive and always ready to tackle the next challenge. Of course, it’s not enough to be a great solo act. Our people must also be helpful and collaborative in every sense of the word. It’s great to be passionate about self-betterment, but true InterWorkers are more concerned with helping others level up along the way. Don’t take our word for it. Our InterWorks Summit video from last year is a prime example of our people’s chemistry and love for each other:

What’s Next for InterWorks?

Many organizations might look at recognition like this and say to themselves “we’ve arrived.” While it’s affirming, our operating mindest and hunger to improve hasn’t changed a bit. Rather than letting off the gas, we want to continue discovering new ways to support our people and keep them happy. Our goal has never been to grow InterWorks for growth’s sake but instead grow our people and see where their growth takes us. It’s guided us well thus far, and this core aspect of culture is one we want to preserve at all costs. Maybe we’ll continue to get recognition for it – or perhaps we won’t. The more important thing to us is that we do right in the eyes of our people and clients. The rest is just icing on the cake.
