Mat Hughes is an hotelier turned revenue analyst turned data geek. After growing up in Southwest Kansas, Mat wanted a change of scenery. Consequently, he has spent a good portion of his life in hotels, but not in the way that you might think.
With over nine years of experience in the hotel industry, hotels have been Mat’s career for some time. From management and training to brand-wide revenue analysis, Mat has seen the industry from every angle possible.
Mat’s extensive hotel operations experience eventually led him into the realm of revenue management and analysis, where he found his niche. He began finding new ways for hotels to make the most of their data. He built and managed various tools that made working with that data much easier. Then, he set out to help others in the organization do the same thing. He became a believer in the value of explaining complex ideas in simple, elegant ways.
Mat soon sought another change in scenery. This time, he wanted to find a place that would really set his love of data of free. He found that InterWorks was the perfect place for that, joining us as a Business Intelligence Consultant. In serving so many diverse clients, Mat can now apply his analytical skills and data knowledge to more than just hotels – although he still has a soft spot for them.
Mat loves his work, but he has a few more passions. He loves travelling with his wife, Kirby, and is willing to travel anywhere if it means a new experience can be found. He is particularly fond of traveling for concerts and music festivals. At any other time, whether it’s in-between trips or during a few minutes of down time, you can find him reading about whatever subject has caught his attention lately.
