Jack’s passion for creating momentum through strong visuals, data, and storytelling can be traced back to his childhood where he split his time between the brush-clad hills of Northern Nevada and the woodlands of New Hampshire. Experiencing the dichotomy between these places allowed him to train his eyes and ears for nuance in colloquial, historical context, landscape and architecture. This awareness carried over into his adult life where he now explores these relationships on a hyperlocal and global scale through photography, writing and data visualization.
It was only natural that he grew up to empower others to tell their own stories with data. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, Jack began a never-ending quest to normalize creativity and divergent thinking in his technical classroom and work environments. When interning for a publication in Prague as a data journalist, he witnessed how data visualization could be used to drive decision-making that could improve the health, safety and education of entire populations.
As an Analytics Consultant at InterWorks, Jack seeks the joy in every task or problem that comes his way, especially those that double as an opportunity to teach and empower people around him to become data rock stars. When he’s not working on a beautiful viz, he can be found pedaling a bike, searching for Portland’s best burrito or printing in his black and white darkroom.
