Reset “admin” password for Astaro Security Gateway

Reset “admin” password for Astaro Security Gateway

So we’ve started messing with Astaro devices, and oddly enough I’ve had the pleasure of locking myself out of it somehow already. One way to reset the password is to reinstall it, another way is to reset the “root” password which will allow you full access to the machine, including resetting your admin account. How? Like this:

Turn off the firewall. Make sure you have keyboard, mouse, monitor attached to it.

Turn it on, wait for GRUB and prest ESC.

Select “Astaro Security Gateway x.x’ (not the previous or rescue). “x.x” represents your current version.

Press ‘e’ = edit. Select the second entry.

Press ‘e’ again, type in ‘init=/bin/bash’.

Press enter, and then ‘b’ to boot.

You can now change the passwords for ‘loginuser’ and ‘root’

Once that is done reboot with ctrl+alt+del.

Login with ‘root’ and your new password.

Now reset the admin account.

Type ‘RAW’. Hit enter.

Type ‘system_password_reset’. Hit enter.

Your password should be reset. Load up the WebAdmin and set your new password.

Done.
