Wow! What a great conference dbt put on this month. The conference gave us great insights into some work a few dbt enthusiasts are working on. Let’s dive into some of my favorite topics covered during the conference. For those of you who missed it, luckily you are able to watch any of the presentations from the conference! All videos are available on dbt’s YouTube channel.

dbt Metadata

When we use dbt inside our data platforms, it is essential that we understand how the models are performing. dbt cloud provides us a run history inside of the UI, but sometimes we want to have that data alive in another part of our platform. Using the API, we can access detailed information about the jobs and run history. Leveraging the dbt API, analytics engineers can perform their own ad hoc analysis on metadata to understand how models are performing and monitor their data pipeline. Kevin Hu, co-founder of Metaplane, provides a walkthrough of how to access the dbt cloud API and leverage dbt metadata.

Future of Data Analytics

If you haven’t been following the data space recently, you are missing out! The data business has been exciting this year, and next year looks to be even more exciting! dbt put together a panel of venture capitalists to get their thoughts on what to look for in the coming year. As more companies look to operationalize their data, it is great to hear from thought leaders in the industry, like those at Andreessen Horowitz, Quiet Capital and Amplify Partners.

dbt and Snowflake

Two of our favorite products in one talk, who can complain? We had the opportunity to listen to a conversation between Snowflake’s SVP of Product and the founder of dbt as they shared what is ahead for these two companies. It is great to hear from pioneers in the industry to give us a better perspective on changes coming down the road. We even got a sneak peek into Snowflake’s new product, Snowpark.

Did you catch any talks you enjoyed? Let us know! We would love to hear what you liked about this year’s conference and work together to strategize for the future.
