OKC, OKLA. — The world’s largest biotechnology organization, Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) has paired with the web developers at InterWorks, Inc. and Baker & Hill Graphic Design, to launch a revamped and redesigned multiblog platform (BIOtech-NOW.org). The launch of the improved platform was designed to consolidate the various BIO blogs into one harmonious and simple multiblog outlet. As part of the consolidation, the new design will also allow easier integration with other social media tools such as Twitter and Facebook in support of a growing connection among the biotechnology industry community.
“As BIO continues to embrace digital platforms to help us pursue our mission, BIOtechNOW will become a critical component of our advocacy, education and business development efforts, often serving as the first place members, legislators, industry leaders and others visit when searching for information on our industry”, a BIO spokesperson described the new approach.
Developers at InterWorks had to take the various requirements and approaches from BIO into consideration when creating the multiblog platform, such as authoring abilities and compatibilities with old data from previous blogs. InterWorks worked with Baker & Hill’s proposed design for the site and merged it with the technical needs outlined for the project. InterWorks then also provided training for the client regarding how to use the site and all of its functions to maximize the full capabilities of the new platform.
“It was a big challenge to take eight random blogs and merge them all together to create a unified platform for their social media front moving forward. It definitely pushed the boundaries of WordPress and we learned more about what we can do with it as a website platform. We imported the data from all eight of the existing blogs while maintaining all formatting, taxonomy, meta information, authors and other post information. In total there were nearly 750 posts that were imported. In addition, there are nearly 30 authors currently blogging on the new unified system.” said Grant Bivens, InterWorks’ lead developer on the project.
