Interview Structure

The core software we use is Tableau. We love this product so much we’ve built a business around it! We want to make sure you’ve used it and love it too. Therefore one of the core parts of the interview will be a presentation of a dashboard that shows your business intelligence skills using Tableau software.

Please download and install the two week trial version of Tableau. Please then build an example dashboard or report using Tableau. You are free to use any data at all as the basis for your dashboard. Extra credit for not using the Tableau or AdventureWorks sample data! Good sources of data are:

Please bring along your completed Tableau dashboard ideally on a laptop or, failing that, on a USB drive.

What the presentation is about?
This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate your ability to present data, your consultancy skills and analytical insight. You are not expected to build the dashboard as part of your presentation.

How much content do I need to prepare?
The aim here is to have sufficient content to demonstrate your presentation and analytical skills. A successful Tableau dashboard can be the story of a great question, some challenging data collection, the iterations of a dashboard leading to a single final dashboard and its conclusion. For some successful applicants their presentation consisted of a series of dashboards each of which detailed an aspect of the data under investigation. 10 to 15 minutes is about the ideal duration for the presentation.

What the presentation is not about?
This is not a test of your technical competency with Tableau itself. It’s also not about the number of dashboards or the volume of content. It’s about whatever answers your chosen question and lets you shine.

No hurry!
Please take as much time as you like to prepare for the interview. If you come via an agency they should make it clear to you that our priority is that you have time to prepare for the interview in order to present yourself in the best possible light. Take your time and arrive prepared.

During the interview there will be a 5-10 minute test of your Tableau Desktop skills (this is purely to benchmark where you are at with the software relative to your stated experience). You may also be tested on basic maths, literacy and finance. If you list any competencies on your CV, be prepared to be tested on them.

There will be a maximum of two interviewers present during the interview.

A typical duration for an interview is 30-60 minutes.

Should you have any additional questions prior to your interview please do not hesitate to contact us directly. Thank you for considering us and we’re looking forward to meeting you.
