CHALLENGE:
The goal of the Kansas Department of Transportation website redevelopment project was to efficiently provide an intuitive information source to customers- one that allows for quick and easy access of information pertinent to each individual user. In order to meet this goal, the website required a complete restructuring. KDOT came to InterWorks with one request: dream big and show us what our ideal website could be.
SOLUTION:
InterWorks implemented a phased attack plan in order to plan and deliver KDOT blueprints to create the ideal website, specifically designed for their needs. In the discovery phase, InterWorks identified and summarized the areas of improvement essential to a successful website redesign. This involved a period where users of all different levels where interviewed and surveyed in order to document individual user experience with the website. Informational sessions with key staff members and users who would be uploading content allowed InterWorks to get a complete understanding of what changes would be necessary for a successful overhaul. Upon finding out exactly how public and private users experienced the website, InterWorks developed a brand new content strategy. How information was displayed and discovered by users was completely remapped and restructured.
RESULTS:
InterWorks furnished KDOT blueprints of the ideal website, where internal users of the website are empowered to manage substantial amounts of content with ease. Working directly with KDOT’s IT department, InterWorks proposed several customized solutions including a comprehensive content strategy plan, an aesthetic design, and a streamlined process by which content is conceived, uploaded, and consumed.
