This past summer, InterWorks hired 14 creative and curious interns for summer 2023. InterWorks summer internship is quite a fun experience and provides such a cultivating learning environment. The internship is based at InterWorks’ headquarters in Stillwater, OK. The goal is for our interns to learn from creative and experienced professionals and to give back to the Stillwater community.
History of the InterWorks Internship Program to Now
Kelsey Lee, Manager of Talent Development and Outreach, established and executed our internship program after working a year at InterWorks. Her hope was to give real-life experience to students (mostly from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater) and encourage them to work with a variety of InterWorks employees.
Over time, the program has evolved where interns now work with and report directly to team managers and technical experts across the company. Weekly one-on-ones occur throughout the summer to ensure interns are successful and receive applicable feedback. In addition, each intern will have additional content expert(s) with which they will work. Each summer, the group picks a set of individuals they want to hear from, and we have a weekly lunch-and-learn series.
We have had interns in Business Intelligence, IT, Marketing, Employee Experience, IT and BI Sales, Accounting, Curator, and more. Best of all, interns work on real projects for the summer. They have worked on internal reporting, pro bono work for clients like United Way of Payne County‘s Day of Caring, as well as delivering and accomplishing other high-impact external projects. Several of our interns have been converted into full-time hires, while others have gone on to work at companies like Greenhouse, ThoughtSpot, KPMG and EY. Others have gone to complete their master’s degrees.

InterWorks’ Goal for the Interns
Our goal is to set up students for success and provide them with experiences and skills that will prepare them for their first job. We value educating our interns in many fields within the business world and providing opportunities in professional development. Our interns have always and will continue to be paid and immersed into the InterWorks culture. The program started small, but now we range from 8–18 interns each summer.
The InterWorks team loves interns because they bring new perspectives, ideas, excitement and different experiences to Interworks. They help inform our culture and keep a strong pulse on the wants and needs of up-and-coming talent, and we always want to stay as current as we can in that regard.

Thoughts From Our Summer 2023 InterWorks Interns
Gavin Holzworth, Data Engineer at InterWorks
“I started as an intern in May of 2022. Quickly, I found that InterWorks is a place with a ton of fun people (and free food)! There are virtually no ‘blockers’ between the business silos and the technology. This affords interns the ability to explore and garner invaluable experience in an industry that is traditionally difficult to break into. Personally, I was able to secure full time employment and project experience ranging from front end website design to backend data engineering.”
Bridget Marrara, Customer Engagement Intern
“Before my time at InterWorks, I wouldn’t have imagined that I could completely rebuild a client facing demo website… but that was my summer project. My favorite part of it all was getting to collaborate with other interns as well as other InterWorkers to create a cohesive demonstration of what InterWorks can offer. I learned so much throughout the process, which helped build my professional confidence. I now look at unfamiliar projects as an exciting challenge!”
Wesley Cannatti, Business Intelligence Intern
“I started at InterWorks in May 2022 and fell in love with the internal culture here. Over my time here, I have had the opportunity to work collaboratively with both full-time employees and other interns on a variety of projects, giving me a wide range of real-world experiences! If you ever reach out to another InterWorker for help, you will get a positive response and assistance, no matter how high in the organization chart they are. I have learned a wide range of new technical skills in the data engineering and analytics industry and look forward to continuing to learn and apply my knowledge in the future! InterWorks also commits substantial resources to ensure that their program is a top-notch experience of upskilling, networking and having fun.”
Catie McCraw, Recruiting Coordinator at InterWorks
“June 2023, I started as an Employee Experience Intern and started working on the onboarding experience at Interworks and worked with multiple departments to create the best experience possible for new hires. I continued throughout Fall 2023 and began working on the recruiting process with my manager, Kelsey Lee, to streamline the recruiting process for our incoming 2024 internship class. My experiences here at InterWorks boosted my confidence in my skillsets and allows me to be a creative problem solver. The InterWorks team and interns are an encouraging and supportive group of people. I have fun and learn something new every day in the office!”
During the Fall we hired two more Employee Experience Interns, Sam Beaty and Riley Logsdon! They have been a powerful addition to the team!
Sam Beaty, Employee Experience Intern
“An internship with InterWorks is a dream come true for any student. I wake up every morning genuinely excited to get into the office and get to work! InterWorks has surrounded me with the best people and provided me the best resources to apply my education and receive hands on experience. I have had a blast helping plan and execute employee events, learning more and gaining confidence along the way.”
Riley Logsdon, Employee Experience Intern
“My internship experience has been and continues to be incredible. The culture at InterWorks is welcoming and I am happy to come to work every day. Every day I feel my hard work is appreciated and the work I do improves the lives of my coworkers. I am glad to work for a company that values its employees and provides opportunities to work hours that fit with my college schedule.”
